Their Back!!

Sasun — Tue, 14 Feb 2023 01:37:39 +0000

After walking towards the front door several times and hearing a humming bird fly away (you can hear them easier than see them), I decided to take a look a closer look at the old nests again.

Lo and behold, the oldest nest had been built up and had 2 eggs in it!!

I do not know for sure if its the same mom humming bird, but I am going to try to get some pictures and try to find out.

Getting Big

Bird Watcher — Mon, 25 Apr 2022 01:10:00 +0000

As you can see, Itsy and Bitsy are almost too big for their nest. It does not leave much room for mom.

If it looks like the nest is leaning, it is. It may be the first nest Lina has ever made and maybe she needs a bit more practice. Twice now I have added some branch support to reduce the lean and keep from having the thin branch droop too much when Lina lands on it. I used some simple sewing thread to tie the branch to additional supporting branches.

Growing chicks

The chicks have been growing fast. Lina spends her whole day feeding them. They are filling their small nest to the point that there is not much room left for mom.

Newborns

I try to get a picture a day of the nest. Today, newborns. They are amazingly small. They are smaller than my small fingernail and you can still the egg shells.

Introduction to Lina

Bird Watcher — Sun, 27 Mar 2022 04:49:00 +0000

When we opened the door one day we saw a humming bird fly away from the tree just outside our door. When we looked in the tree we saw a humming birds nest. This was the same tree and branches that had a nest the year before, so it could be one of the kids from that clutch.

The first picture of Lina. It is taken from the window of our entryway. Yes, that is how close she built her nest to our front door.

When Lina took off for a couple of minutes I got to get a quick a picture of the two eggs she had laid. It was clear she was still working on the nest as she was incubating.
